With nine rooms, half our requests involve a conversation — joining beds, terrace breakfasts, a cot, two rooms side by side. Email handles that better than a calendar widget, and it lets us say honestly when a different room would suit you more.

From age six, yes, and they tend to love it. The courtyard pool is open and unfenced, and the Barjeel stair is steep, which is why we ask that younger children wait a few years.

Taxis stop at the Al Fahidi gate, two minutes' level walk away. Tell us your arrival time and someone will be at the gate to carry bags and lead the way. Airport transfers work the same door-to-gate way.

Hot outside and remarkably livable inside — the house was engineered for it before air conditioning existed, and now has both. Summer rates are our lowest, breakfast moves indoors, and the roof comes alive after sunset.
